Autumn Shield at Launceston - 29th October 2025

Pictured below are Peter Mehigan (StM), CSGA 2025 Captain Steve Marks and Mike Page (StM).

Despite a very wet and windy start, a fine day was had by 38-players at Launceston for the Autumn Shield. “We was lucky!”  All seemed to finish dry and sun bathed the 18th for our later finishers.
LGC looked after us well and for a very reasonable charge. Coffee and bacon rolls on arrival with ham, egg and chips afterwards. Proper ‘man chips’ too.
Winners on-the-day with a creditable 38pts on a course playing very long were Peter Mehigan and Mike Page from St Mellion.
2nd with 37pts were Laurence Voysey and Mike Rowse from Radnor.
3rd were Alvin Edney and Bruce Sobey with 36pts, also from St Mellion.
An excellent nearest-the-pin on the 12th was won by Bruce Sobey.
The only 2 for the whole day on the 4th hole scooped £30 for Simon Waddington from Launceston, who also won a bottle of gin in the raffle, proving it’s better to be lucky than good.
Other raffle prizes were won by CSGA Secretary Alan Price from Falmouth and possibly Ian Coutts (?) from West Cornwall.
A big thank you was given to Mike Vine who is stepping down as Treasurer for CSGA after 14-years. Steve Marks will be taking this on for 2026 after his 2025 Captaincy year.
The Committee meeting is at St Austell on 24th November.
No more CSGA golf days now until 2026.

WHS Update

WHS have made changes to the Handicapping system by adding (Course Rating – Course Par) to the current Course Handicap!
This change will affect lower handicap golfers more than higher ones.
It is now possible to submit a 4BBB score for handicap under certain conditions.
There is also a change to the score recorded for a hole not played.
The details can be found by clicking this link – WHS Changes
